Most kitchen sink cabinets include a 6″ decorative false drawer in front of the sink. But what if you inverted the cabinet base frame? Suddenly, that false front becomes a working drawer at the bottom, giving you an extra six inches of usable storage. The cabinet doors would shift above the drawer, raising the space where your supplies are stored.

This adjustment makes perfect sense: when you open a typical sink cabinet, there’s usually about 6″ of unused vertical space between the bottom of the sink and the tops of your cleaning products. By raising the storage area, you not only gain a drawer but also make the contents easier to access.

Beyond the Kitchen

This same concept works beautifully in bathroom vanities. A shallow drawer beneath the sink can be the perfect spot for toiletries, keeping counters clear and essentials neatly tucked away.

Hidden Towel Storage

Another clever upgrade is adding a hidden towel bar inside the sink cabinet. Instead of draping dishtowels over the refrigerator, stove, or cabinet handles, you can keep them out of sight but within easy reach. The solution is simple: use a cabinet without a center stile (the vertical divider in the opening), or remove it. Then drill holes at each end and insert a ½” stainless steel rod. Voilà — a discreet towel bar that keeps your kitchen looking tidy.
